Paragraph 1- Anyone who marries a woman makes a blessing or has an agent make the blessing, whether he marries the woman himself or via an agent. There are those who say someone else should make the blessing, and that is indeed the custom. The blessing is “asher kidishanu al ha’aryos, viasar lanu ha’arusos, vihitir lanu haneusos al yidei chupa v’kiddushin, barch ata adonoy mikadesh yisrael.” There are those who have a different text of the blessing and say “vihitir lanu hanesusos al yide chupa v’kiddushin,” and conclude “baruch ata adonoy mikadesh amo yisrael al yidei chupa v’kiddushin. This is indeed the custom in our countries. Once he concludes the blessing he marries her.

Paragraph 2- The custom is to have the blessing said on a cup of wine. A blessing is first made on the wine, followed by the blessing on the marriage. If there is no wine or beer, they marriage blessing would be made by itself.

Paragraph 3- If no blessing was made at the time of the erusin, he would not make it at the time of nissuin. There are those who say he would make the blessing at the time of nesuin, and this is indeed the custom. Even if the man married the woman a long time ago he would make the erusin blessing under the chupah. There are those who say he would marry her again under the chuppa so that the marriage would be close to the blessing. See later in Siman 36. If the man already made the erusin blessing at the time of the initial kiddushin, there are those who say he would be a blessing under the chupah without mentioning God’s name because of the observers. This seems correct to me.

Paragraph 4- The erusin-blessing requires 10 people in the first instance.
