born Narendranath Dutta[1] is the chief disciple of the 19th century mystic Ramakrishna and the founder of Ramakrishna Mission.[2] Vivekananda is considered as the first Hindu missionary to the West.[3] He is considered as an key figure in the dissemination of Hinduism and Yoga in Europe and America[2] and is also credited with raising Hinduism to the status of a world religion.[4] Vivekananda is considered to be a major force in the revival of Hinduism in India.[3] He is best known for his inspiring speech through which he introduced Hindu philosophy at the World Parliament of Religions in Chicago in 1893.[1]
