UpstateNYer here; I'm mainly a Wikipedia user, but in doing research about New Netherland, I've begun to add primary documents here so I can link to them clearly and easily from the Wikipedia articles I work on.

I have transcribed a few documents from the Van Rensselaer Bowier Manuscripts, a document compiled by the State University of New York, which chronicles the history of the Manor of Rensselaerswyck and its founder, Kiliaen van Rensselaer. I also transcribe documents hosted by the New York State Museum

Documents added:

  • Charter of the Dutch West India Company
  • Amplification of the Charter of the Dutch West India Company (1622)
  • Amplification of the Charter of the Dutch West India Company (1623)
  • Charter of Freedoms and Exemptions
  • Notification by Samuel Godyn, Kiliaen van Rensselaer and Samuel Blommaert that they send two persons to New Netherland to inspect the country
  • Registration by Kiliaen van Rensselaer and associates of a colony above and below Fort Orange, on both sides of the North River
  • Instructions to Bastiaen Jansz Krol from Kiliaen van Rensselaer (January 10, 1630)
  • Contract of sale of land along the Hudson River from the Mahican Indians to Kiliaen van Rensselaer
