Scripture reference ranges[edit]
To be useful this index needs expanding to record the Scripture reference range for each page in the source text.
A more correct term for this would be a Table of Contents. It's not really a word index like you often find at the end of a book. David Haslam (talk) 19:29, 17 March 2017 (UTC)
Readable ref numbers[edit]
I'm working on the initial pages of Matthew e.g. Page:KJV 1772 Oxford Edition, vol. 2.djvu/206 from the sources and also trying to do the reference sidenotes, as footnotes as seen elsewhere here at KJV. And even using the larger 2548px images the tiny print in sidenotes is... difficult.
Many of the letters are uncertain and can only be figured out because in sequence. While many digits are problem-resistant, the digits for one and two are often smeared so much as to be indistinguishable. Was that "1 Pet. 11. 22." or "2 Pet. 12. 12." or "2 Pet. 21. 11." or...
So I've resorted to indirect means, thinking that another author will have had access to a copy of KJV for close examination, and _their_ notes will be at several times more accurate than my (or our) guess from the scan at what was originally in the source. At worst consulting such will be needed confirmation that guesses were correct.
I'm chiefly relying on "Commentary on the Gospels: By Thos. O. Summers, Volume 1", Southern Methodist publishing house, 1869, with example page at GoogleBooks. The author reproduces the original KJV references faithfully (after 7 pages checked) and the scan is so much clearer.
So, I'm cheating, and not *that* good at reading the squiggles. :-) And I'm adding this note because I assume the refs are good there for use with the *other* books of KJV bible. Shenme (talk) 01:32, 9 July 2020 (UTC)

- The Holy Bible ... with Critical, Philological and Explanatory Notes by the Rev. John Hewlett
- where the reprinting/rebinding instructions say: "if in Six Volumes"
- Vol I .... to Deuteronomy

- Vol III Job to Lamentations
- Vol IV Ezekiel to Malachi, and Apocrypha
- Vol V History of the Jews, Matthew to Acts
- Vol VI Romans to Revelation, and three Indexes
- When downloaded as PDFs it is possible to copy-n-paste (with some scan errors) the cross-references seen on every page of this book. The copy-n-paste will sometimes copy entries in odd sequences, but with care it is better than reading smudges. Note that some errors and omissions in marginal notes in the AKJV are _not_ corrected here. Shenme (talk) 03:24, 10 September 2020 (UTC)
