*BUCHANITES, a Sect in Scotland which arose about 1783. They believed in a Mrs. Buchan of Glasgow, who gave herself out to be the Woman spoken of in the Apocalypse, and promised to conduct her followers to heaven without dying; but she died soon after, and with her the sect ended.[1]
