Capitalization, punctuation, ... i.e. edits[edit]
It is known that most editions of Emily Dickinson's poems were heavily edited by publishers, editors, and others. Consequentially, in modern times her poems appear in edited and unedited forms. Wikisource is no exception. I think that wikisource should store only the contents of the original manuscripts, or at least show the different forms side by side. But the purpose of multiple versions would, it seems to me, be primarily to show the differences between the edited and unedited versions. However, this purpose could easily be satisfied by creating a wikipedia article and/or (if necessary) by expanding the edited version section of Dickinson's Wikipedia article. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Emily_Dickinson Humanist Geek (talk) 07:26, 11 June 2010 (UTC)
- This is many years later, but I wholeheartedly agree with Humanist Geek that Wikisource should strive to present some alternate versions -- ideally the versions of Dickinson's poems that come closest to her original intent. Right now, there is a complete version of the original 1890 "Poems" (heavily edited by Mabel Loomis Todd and Thomas Higginson) on the site, and a recently added, incomplete copy of the 1924 "Complete Poems of Emily Dickinson" edited by Martha Dickinson Bianchi (Emily's niece).
- The 1924 version seems to preserve more of the syntax Dickinson used, so I'm currently working on getting it proofread, verified, and transcluded. If anyone would like to help out, we can get another whole book of Dickinson poetry on Wikisource! Vbernwaite (talk) 00:32, 25 April 2024 (UTC)

Poem numbering[edit]
Where do the numbers for the poems come from, and where should I look if I find a poem without a number? The specific poems I'm concerned with at the moment are below, but I wouldn't be surprised if there were more, as I found these poems while linking unlinked pages.
