Acute. Sharp; something piercing; a term applied to any sound that is sharp, or high, in respect to some other sound ; a tone which is sharp, shrill, and high ; in which sense the word stands opposed to grace. Sounds considered as acute, and grave, that is, in relation of gravity and acuteness, constitute what we call tune-the foundation of all harmony.
