Bank Clerk May Die Today. Herme F. Hahnen Critically Ill, Appendicitis is Cause. Herme F. Hahnen, chief clerk at the Iowa National Bank, is critically ill at Mercy Hospital, where he was operated on Tuesday for appendicitis. Mr. Hahnen was taken sick Monday. Tuesday he was taken to the hospital. The symptoms grew more serious, and an operation was decided upon as the only means of saving his life. The operation was postponed until late in the afternoon. Then it was learned that the appendix has burst, inducing gangrene. Realizing that his condition was quite serious, the attending physicians sought to prevent the spread of the infection, but without success. Today his life was said to hang by a thread, and his family and friends are very apprehensive for his recovery.
