University of Kansas, at Lawrence, was established by an act of legislature in 1864, and is an integral part of the public-school system. The university embraces a graduate school, school of arts, schools of engineering, law, fine arts, medicine and pharmacy. The faculty numbers 146, the students 2,364 and the library 55,000 volumes.
