DNB contributor template cleanup
Hi. I've been recently working on cleaning up the DNB contributor templates for ambiguous ones to match in line with existing similar ones. Can you please turn these into disambiguation pages similar to what's in Category:Dictionary of National Biography ambiguous contributor templates and disambiguate these with AWB? They're transcluded in so many pages, so they would require too many tabs to be opened if done manually.
- Template:DNB CM: ambiguous given Template:DNB CM Maclean
- Template:DNB EG: ambiguous given Template:DNB EG Green
- Template:DNB FR: ambiguous given Template:DNB FR Rogers
- Template:DNB GCB: ambiguous given Template:DNB GCB Bourne
- Template:DNB HMS: ambiguous given Template:DNB HMS Spooner
- Template:DNB JAH: ambiguous given Template:DNB JAH Herbert
- Template:DNB JHL: ambiguous given Template:DNB JHL Longford
- Template:DNB AM: redundant to Template:DNB AM Miller. but Template:DNB AM Mackie exists.
- Template:DNB JH: redundant to Template:DNB JH Humphreys, but Template:DNB JH Hooper exists.
- Template:DNB TS: redundant to Template:DNB TS Seccombe, but Template:DNB TS Sinclair exists.
During the cleanup, I also ran into Template:DNB AH Hartshorne, which seems to have been created in error since none of the DNB contributor lists attach Albert Hartshorne to any initial but "A.H-e." Making it a redirect to Template:DNB AH-e would be misleading because "A.H." was never used for his work on the DNB, so I might consider it for deletion. ミラP@Miraclepine 03:03, 28 January 2023 (UTC)
- @Miraclepine: Please leave them for the moment as I am talking about Xover about a better way to deal with these. The current situation is ugly, and it is just getting more complex and unsustainable. — billinghurst sDrewth 03:30, 28 January 2023 (UTC)
- Thank you. I've subscribed to the conversation on Xover's talk page for further developments in the meanwhile. ミラP@Miraclepine 04:29, 28 January 2023 (UTC)

then clean up - {{pol}} set this up so it substitutes automatically,
then clean up - Translations from Camoens; and Other Poets, with Original Poetry needs a AuxToC built, and contributor components rather than authors, maybe also use override_translator rather than translator for cleanliness

- push "contributor to creative work" / "biographer" / "initials"
- construct the QS components (see if we can do anything with harvest tool first)
Petscan / QS pushes
- Category:Ornithologists as authors needs push in, then tidy up

Sep 2023 to do
- Template:ShowTransclude
- Look to convert this template to instead utilise <ref follow=...>
- Fix ToC Page:Horses and roads.djvu/11++ to use css
- double transclusion of same index: The Haughs of Crumdel / Haughs of Crumdel (2) => shuffling, editing and deletions required

Recent changes
- The Nuke feature, which enables administrators to mass delete pages, will now correctly delete pages which were moved to another title. [1]
- New changes have been made to the UploadWizard in Wikimedia Commons: the overall layout has been improved, by following new styling and spacing for the form and its fields; the headers and helper text for each of the fields was changed; the Caption field is now a required field, and there is an option for users to copy their caption into the media description. [2][3]
Changes later this week
- The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 21 May. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 22 May. It will be on all wikis from 23 May (calendar). [4][5]
- The HTML used to render all headings is being changed to improve accessibility. It will change on 22 May in some skins (Timeless, Modern, CologneBlue, Nostalgia, and Monobook). Please test gadgets on your wiki on these skins and report any related problems so that they can be resolved before this change is made in all other skins. The developers are also considering the introduction of a Gadget API for adding buttons to section titles if that would be helpful to tool creators, and would appreciate any input you have on that.

Recent changes
- Several bugs related to the latest updates to the UploadWizard on Wikimedia Commons have been fixed. For more information, see T365107 and T365119.
- In March 2024 a new addPortlet API was added to allow gadgets to create new portlets (menus) in the skin. In certain skins this can be used to create dropdowns. Gadget developers are invited to try it and give feedback.
- Some CSS in the Minerva skin has been removed to enable easier community configuration. Interface editors should check the rendering on mobile devices for aspects related to the classes:
.collapsible
,.multicol
,.reflist
,.coordinates
,.topicon
. Further details are available on replacement CSS if it is needed.
Changes later this week
- The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 28 May. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 29 May. It will be on all wikis from 30 May (calendar). [6][7]
- When you visit a wiki where you don't yet have a local account, local rules such as edit filters can sometimes prevent your account from being created. Starting this week, MediaWiki takes your global rights into account when evaluating whether you can override such local rules. [8]

Transparency in the check user process
saw your comment on commons. Trust but verify. given the abuse of checkuser on Croatian and Chinese, you will need to have an audit trail to build trust. and you have a checkuser on wikidata blocking editathons, so training on discretion is needed. having a known audit trail with an aggregrate report to the community, will tend to discourage fishing, and encourage accountable functionary behavior. now that edit patterns are incorporated in filters and tools, audit use of filters with feedback as well. if you don't do that, trust in functionaries will continue to erode. --Slowking4 ‽ digitaleffie's ghost 16:10, 3 June 2024 (UTC)

Recent changes
- The software used to render SVG files has been updated to a new version, fixing many longstanding bugs in SVG rendering. [14]
- The HTML used to render all headings is being changed to improve accessibility. It was changed last week in some skins (Vector legacy and Minerva). Please test gadgets on your wiki on these skins and report any related problems so that they can be resolved before this change is made in Vector-2022. The developers are still considering the introduction of a Gadget API for adding buttons to section titles if that would be helpful to tool creators, and would appreciate any input you have on that.
- The HTML markup used for citations by Parsoid changed last week. In places where Parsoid previously added the
mw-reference-text
class, Parsoid now also adds thereference-text
class for better compatibility with the legacy parser. More details are available. [15]

- There was a bug with the Content Translation interface that caused the tools menus to appear in the wrong location. This has now been fixed. [16]
Changes later this week
- The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 11 June. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 12 June. It will be on all wikis from 13 June (calendar). [17][18]
- The new version of MediaWiki includes another change to the HTML markup used for citations: Parsoid will now generate a
<span class="mw-cite-backlink">
wrapper for both named and unnamed references for better compatibility with the legacy parser. Interface administrators should verify that gadgets that interact with citations are compatible with the new markup. More details are available. [19] - On multilingual wikis that use the
<translate>
system, there is a feature that shows potentially-outdated translations with a pink background until they are updated or confirmed. From this week, confirming translations will be logged, and there is a new user-right that can be required for confirming translations if the community requests it. [20]
