Charles Henry Gauss
(1845–1913)
Charles Henry Gauss was born in St. Charles, Missouri to Eugene Gauss and Henrietta Fawcett Gauss. He attended Yale University, becoming an engineer. He married Charlotte Elizabeth Johns (Lizzie), daughter of John Jay Johns. He later worked in his father's lumber yard, and, after it burned, moved to the San Antonio, Texas area, where he and his brother-in-law, Arthur Johns started a lumber business, which ultimately failed. Later he and his family returned to St. Charles, Missouri.
