William Prude,

SOLDIER,

Was born at Canterbury where says Fuller, "his stock has continued for some hundreds of years, and bred a soldier in the Low Countries, where he attained to be Lieutenant Colonel." He was slain July 12, 1632, at the siege of Maestricht. His body was brought to England and buried in the Cathedral of his native city, where an inscription (quoted by Fuller), records both his valour and piety —

……………"for admidst all harmes.
He bore as much of piety as armes."
