'o begin, začati. See ist conj., 4th class. The pres. is začnu, the n being explained by the existence of a nasal originally, as is the case with all verbs of this conjugation. The nasals existed in Old Slavonic, but have now dis- appeared except in Polish and some dialects of Bul- garian.
