History painter, pupil of the schools of the Brera, Milan ; was professor at the Milan Academy when called to Turin by King Charles Albert, who ordered him to paint for the staircase of the palace a victory of the Italians over the Austrians. This exiled him from Milan, but lie was made president of the Academia Albertini, Turin, and after- tor. History unknown ; not certainly a portrait of Ariosto, but may be the picture of the Lopez collection, sold in London in time of Charles I.; and this in turn may have been the portrait which Bartiffalcli says was sent to Padua in 1554 by Ariosto's son Virginio. The copy formerly in the Palazzo Manfrini passed to Barker collection in 1857, and was afterward sold.
