20. Schedule 17 – Letters, numerals and other character

The new structure

20.1
This follows the same format as Schedule 13 in TSRGD 2002 except for symbols indicating diversion routes. These are prescribed in Part 11 of Schedule 12 and include a new "black cross" symbol.
20.2
Schedule 17 additionally includes the new Scottish Gaelic alphabets. Letters, numerals and other characters for use on brown (tourist sign) and dark green (primary route sign) backgrounds are yellow and prescribed in Part 9. Those for use on a white (non primary route sign) background are dark green and prescribed in Part 10.
20.3
As the dimensions of the elements of directional signs prescribed in Schedule 12 are specified in stroke widths, regulation 5(17) ensures that the correct size of letters is used. This regulation states that in Schedule 17, in Parts 1 to 4, 9 and 10, the height of the rectangular area on which the letters, numerals and other characters are placed is eight stroke widths.
