1725 Robert Clavering, S.T.D., regitts professor o/Hebrt to
1 1 Geo. I. fa t/,, university of Oxford, was nominated bishop of
Llandaff and dean of Hereford 29th Aug. 1724: the
royal assent to his election was given 17th Nov., and
he was consecrated 2nd Jan. 1724 5 : ", and the tem- poralities were restored to him on the 5th of that month 71 . lie was translated to Peterborough 7*.
1729 John Harris, S.T.I)., was nominated bishop of Llan- 3 Geo. 11. daff 3rd Feb. 1728-9, and elected 30th Sept. fol- lowing; he was consecrated [9th Oct. 73 , and did his homage on the 20th at Kensington. Ho held the deanery of Hereford, and afterwards that of Wells, in conmiendam. He died 2Sth Aug. 1 7 > s - and was buried in Wells cathedral.
[739 Matthias Mawson, S.T.P., master of Corpus Christi isGeo.II. eoUepe, Cambridge t was nominated 12th Jan. 1738-9, and the royal assent given to his election 6th Feb. He was consecrated bishop of Llandaff 18th Feb." 1 , and the temporalities were restored to him on the 22nd of the same month, lie was translated to Chi- chester in 1740.
1740 John Gilbert, dean of Exeter } was nominated icth 3 Geo. II. May 1740, and received the royal assent 17th Nov. He was consecrated 28th Dee. 1 740 "', and translated to Salisbury in 1 748.
1749 Edward Cresset, dean of Hereford, was nominated 2 Geo. II. 2ml Jan. 1748-9, elected on the 17th, and the royal assent to his election was given on the 26th of the same month. He was confirmed i ith Feb. and con- secrated the next day" 6 . The temporalities were re- stored to him 24th Feb., and he died at his house in Duke Street. Westminster, 13th Feb. J 755.
