BACKGROUND:

You will be speaking to the third and last general session of the 57th Annual Meeting. The theme is "Looking Forward Together."

The annual meeting theme is "Developing Unity and Strength for Progress."

You have spoken previously to the Chamber of Commerce as Congressman, Senator and Vice President. Just prior to your entrance Mr. Allan Shivers, Chairman of the Board, Chamber of Commerce of the United States and Chairman of the Board of the Austin National Bank, Austin, Texas, will have presented the Postmaster General a cup in appreciation for his service as President of the Chamber of Commerce.

After you depart there will be a Panel discussion on "Existing Programs and New Commitments: Impacts on the Nation's Economy." The Moderator will be Mr. James J. Kilpatrick, syndicated columnist. Participants are Mr. Hendrik S. Houthakker, Council of Economic Advisers; Honorable Robert P. Mayo, Director of the Budget; Senator Jack Miller of Iowa; and Mr. Walker Winter, Chairman of the Taxation Committee, Chamber of Commerce.
