Ch. 24, 25. 1866. 13 writing, knowing the same to be false, forged, altered, or counterfeited, for the purpose of defraudiug the United States ; every such person shall be deemed and adjudged guilty of felony, and being thereof duly convicted, shall be sentenced to be imprisoned, and kept at hard labor, for a period not exceeding ten years, or be lined not exceeding one thousand dollars, or both of said punishments in the discretion of the court. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United Thggibrary of States of Americrz in Congress assembled, That the library collected by the the _S¤Yfi¥hS<>¤i¤¤ Smithsonian Institution under the rovisions f an act a roved An st I"sm"t'}’" t° b° P 0 PP gu transfern ed to the tenth, eighteen hundred and forty-six, shall be removed from the building library of Conof said institution, with the consent of the regents thereof; to the new fire- !¥"fg;; ch 178 proof extension of the library of Congress, upon completion of a sufficient v01_ QL 10Q portion thereof for its accommodation, and shall, while there deposited, be subject to the same regulations as the library of Congress, except as hereinafrer provided. Sec. 2. And be it furiher enacted, That when such library shall have h0wwb,md_ been so removed and deposited, the Smithsonian Institution shall have the use thereof in like manner as it is now used, and the public shall have access thereto for purposes of consultation on every ordinary week day except during one month of each year, in the recess of Congress, when it maybe closed for renovation. All the books, maps, and charts of the Smithsonian library shall be properly cared for and preserved in like manner as are those of the Congressional library, from which the Smithsonian library shall not be removed except on reimbursement by the Smithsonian In- mgsgd tixggp? stitution to the Treasury of the United States of expenses incurred in upon reimbursebinding and in taking care of the same, or upon such terms and con- m°“*· &°· ditions as shall be mutually agreed upon by Congress and the regents of said Institution. Sec. 3. And be it further cnactci That the Smithsonian Institution, Sqrifbeeniw through its secretary, shall have the use of the library of Congress, subject };g*·;$;g;·ym;; to the same regulations as Senators and Representatives. And be it further enacted, That the sum of Eve hundred dollars, Appropriation or so much thereof as may be necessary, shall be appropriated, out of any fer expenses of money in the treasury not otherwise appropriated, to defray the expenses ’°"‘°"“L of the removal herein provided for.
