Bassett, sole surviving heir of Henry Opeman Hazsett, deceased, the sum of one hundred and forty-two dollars and fifty-nine cents, the sum being a balance due the said Henry Opeman Bassett, and never paid, as a mail contractor for service for quarter endin March thirty-first, eighteen hundred and sixty-one, the date to whicb service has been certified. Hyg Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United U"'*'•°°· N°·”““=l States of America in Congress assembled, That the Postmaster- James semen. General be, and he is hereby, authorized and directed to cause the °’°‘“““ °°°°°“‘°· accounts of James A. Carroll, postmaster at Randall, State of Kansas, to be credited with the sum of ninety-nine dollars, and that he cause said credit to be certified to the auditor of the Treasury for the Post- Oliice Department, being on account of the loss of ninety-nine dollars in postal funds lost in transit, the mail pouch in which same was consigned being stolen from the Jamestown, Kanm,, t-omce and the money abstracted therefrom, it appearing that saidmlloss was without fault or negligence on the part of the postmaster; and the said sum of ninety-nine dollars is here y appropriated, out of any money in the Treasury not otherwise appropriate , to pay said claim.
