241 POLICE COURT Salaries : For personal services, $85,000 . For law b ooks, books of ref erence , dire ctories , peri odical s, sta - tionery, preservation of records, typewriters and repairs thereto, fuel, ice, gas, electric lights and power, telephone service, laundry work, removal of ashes and rubbish, mops, brooms, buckets, dusters, sponges, painter's and plumber's supplies, toilet articles, medicines, soap and disinfectants, lodging and meals for jurors and bailiffs when ordered by the co urt, Unit ed States flags an d halyard s, and al l other n ecessary and incidental expenses of every kind not otherwise provided for, $5,500 . For witne ss fee s and compen sation of ju rors, $ 23,000 . For repairs a nd altera tions to building, $1,420 . MUNICIPAL COURT Salaries : For personal services, including compensation of five judges without reference to the limitation in this Act restricting salaries within th e grade, $63,000 . For compensation of jurors, $4,000 : Provided, That deposits made on demands for jury trials in accordance with rules prescribed by the cou rt und er aut hority grant ed in section 11 of the A ct app roved March 3, 1921 (41 Stat ., p . 1312), shall be earned unless, prior to three days before the time set for such trials, including Sundays and legal holidays, a new date for trial be set by the court, cases be discontinued or settled, or demands for jury trials be waived . For contingent expenses, including books, law books, books of referen ce, fu el, li ght, t elepho ne, lo dging a nd mea ls for juror s, and for deputy United States marshals while in attendance upon jurors, when ordered by the court ; fixtures, repairs to furniture, building and building equipment, and all other necessary miscellaneous items and supplies, $2,750 . SUPREME COURT, DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA Salaries : For the chief justice, eight associate justices, nine stenog- raphers ( one for t he chief justice a nd one fo r each as sociate j ustice), and other personal services, $112,000 . Fees of jurors and witnesses : For mileage and per diem of jurors, for mileage and per diem of witnesses and for per diem in lieu of subsistence, and payment of the expenses of witnesses in said court as provided by section 850, Revised Statutes (U .S .C., title 28, sec . 604), $85,000 . For not exceeding twenty deputy marshals who act as bailiffs, clerks of jury commissioners, and per diems of jury commissioners, and for expenses of meals and lodging for jurors in United States cases, and of bailiffs in attendance upon same when ordered by the court, $31,942 : Provided, That the compensation of each jury com- mission er for the f iscal year 1 934 sh all not excee d $250 . Probation system : For personal services, $9,758 ; contingent expenses, $242 ; in all, $10,000 . Courthouse : For personal services for care and protection of the courthouse, under the direction of the United States marshal of the District of Columbia, $30,000, to be expended under the direction of the Attorney General . For repairs and improvements to the courthouse, including repair and maintenance of the mechanical equipment, and for labor and mater ial a nd ev ery item incid ent there to, $ 4,000 , to be e xpend ed under t he dir ection of th e Arch itect of the Capito l . .S6637'-,34
