(Formerly) amended text[edit]

Looks like the "combination of wedges" is 𒈗 LUGAL (king), with a small stroke that failed to print on the left, but without a phonetic value or meaning it's hard to be sure.

For the Arabic, the EB's <مسمارى> is Egyptian etc. orthography but <مسماري> better fits international norms for that transliteration. I don't know which is better for our purposes.

@Kwamikagami: In re Egytian vs. international: when in doubt reproduce the way it was published as closely as possible (that's why we have the scans, after all). That being said, I know absolutely nothing about this particular issue, so if you think there might be good reasons to deviate you might want to bring this up at Wikisource:Scriptorium/Help. In general we hold such discussions at one of our two main village pumps (WS:S and WS:S/H), and only discussion between active ongoing collaborators happen on talk pages (which is sort of the exact opposite of how things are done on enWP and many other projects). Especially for individual Page: namespace pages where pretty much nobody will have it watchlisted (it's random chance that I ran a bot over this page a while back and forgot to turn off watchlisting for it). @Xover: Thanks. Thinking about it some more, I agree with you. I was over-thinking it. The Arabic orthography is straightforward, and the transliteration is there for those who don't know this convention. The only problem would be someone who thinks they need to correct the Arabic to match the transliteration, but that can be avoided by tagging it with the 'sic' template, which I just did. BTW, I figured it would be a good idea to explain any non-obvious amendations here, where it won't get archived. I've often been frustrated when I visit a page tagged as problematic and there's nothing on talk explaining why. Kwamikagami (talk) 11:34, 28 August 2022 (UTC)Reply
