South Africa Act Amendment Act, 1954
enacted by the Parliament of South Africa
Act No. 20 of 1954. First published on 9 June 1954 in Government Gazette Extraordinary No. 5287, and came into force upon publication. Repealed on 31 May 1961 by the Republic of South Africa Constitution Act, 1961.

To amend the South Africa Act, 1909.

Be it enacted by the Queen’s Most Excellent Majesty, the Senate and the House of Assembly of the Union of South Africa, as follows:―


Amendment of section 78 of the South Africa Act, 1909.

1. Section seventy-eight of the South Africa Act, 1909, is hereby amended by the addition at the end of sub-section (3) of the words “and a member of the executive committee shall not be disqualified from being elected as a member of the provincial council”.


Short title.

2. This Act shall be called the South Africa Act Amendment Act, 1954.
