One a side note, will Mao's estate sue if this turns out to not be public domain?

  • Quotations from Chairman Mao Zedong - nothing but a large selection of quotes; not a work. Zhaladshar 13:51, 16 Mar 2005 (UTC)
    • That's all that the Little Red Book ever was. That, and the circumstances of its distribution may be sufficient to qualify this as fair use without getting into the question of what copyrights Mao's heirs may still have. :-) Eclecticology 08:33, 2 Apr 2005 (UTC)
      • I don't get it. When does fair use apply? Several historical documents have been deleted, under the official reason that they were translations, and that copyright does apply to translations (e.g. english translations of Mein Kampf, of the Sportpalast speech by Goebbels). Of course, I do not support the content of these texts, but I believe they have a value as historical documents. If copyright is the issue, I believe that it was ridiculous to delete them, because nobody will ever claim copyright on those texts. But I did not say anything, because I did not want to interfere with your copyright policy. Now, I realize that your copyright policy is different for nazi texts and for communist texts. I believe there is a NPOV issue here. ThomasV 12:42, 15 Apr 2005 (UTC)
