Grammar and spelling corrections

Several IPs and (probably) German speaking users have corrected genuine spelling and grammar mistakes in this text. However, it is not clear that Clemens did not actually make these mistakes in the original, possibly even with artistic licence. If so, these "mistakes" should be preserved due to the nature of this text. So in this case, it appears to be especially important to have some page scans of an original edition to back up the spelling and grammar of the Wikisource version.--GrafZahl (talk) 09:36, 30 April 2008 (UTC)

Corrections

Although there seems to have been many corrections in this text there are still mistakes in it. As a native German speaker I especially noticed that there are many "th" where should simply stand a "t" and that some of the genders are not used in the right way. But I'm of the opinion, that these mistakes only clarify the difficulties in the German language. Though I see many problems in the English language, too. There are also many words which have too much different meanings and sometimes there is a word I want to translate from German into English and I have to notice that in the English language exists no fitting word at all. --Jowo (talk) 17:38, 26 March 2010 (UTC)

Here on Wikisource, we try to reproduce texts precisely as they were published. In this particular case, you have to take into account that first publication was in 1880, only four years after the first orthographic conference (which did not eliminate all "th" in favour of "t") and well before the important second orthographic conference of 1901 (which finally did). So actually, I'm not even confident that all the small bona-fide corrections made to this page reflect Clemens's original publication. This text is one case where we really should compare the wiki markup with a scanned original very thoroughly.--GrafZahl (talk) 10:13, 30 March 2010 (UTC)
