HOWARTH, hou'ẽrth, Ellen Clementine (1827-99). An American poet, born at Cooperstown, N. Y. She wrote a number of songs, such as “'Tis but a Little Faded Flower,” and published a volume, The Wind-Harp and Other Poems (1864). Her later work has been edited, with an introduction by Richard W. Gilder.
