The Queen has been pleased to approve the following promotions in and appointments to the Most Honourable Order of the Bath (Civil Division) :—
To be K.C.B.—Clements Robert Markham, Esq. C.B. (president of the Royal Geographical Society).

Mr. Clements Robert Markham, C.B., F.R.S. who is promoted to K.C.B., was born in 1830. He has been president of the Royal Geographical Society since 1893; he served in the expedition in search of Franklin in 1850-51; introduced chinchona cultivation into India; was Assistant Secretary in the India Office from 1868 to 1877; and was appointed president of the Hakluyt Society in 1890.
