584:1[edit]We do not say Hallel on Rosh Hashanah or Yom Kippur. Rem"a: We have the practice of saying all of "Our Father our King." If it is Shabbat, we do not say it (Ra"n chapter 2 of Rosh Hashanah and Rivas"h chapter 512). We continue with piyyut and prayers until noon (Mahari"l). |
סעיף א אין אומרים הלל בראש השנה ויום הכיפורים: הגה ונוהגין לומר אבינו מלכנו על הסדר ואם הוא שבת אין אומרים אותו (ר"ן פ"ב דר"ה וריב"ש סימן תקי"ב) ומאריכים בפיוטים ותפלות עד חצות: (מהרי"ל): |
584:2[edit]We take out two Torah scrolls. In the first one, we read five portions from "God attended Sarah" [Genesis 21:1] until "After these things" [Genesis 22:1]. If it is Shabbat, we read seven portions [from this selection]. The maftir reads from the second scroll from Pinchas, "In the seventh month..." [Numbers 29:1] and for the haftarah, "There was a man from Ramatayim" [1 Samuel 1:1] until "He will bring triumph to His annointed one" [1 Samuel 2:10]. Rem"a: Some places have the custom of calling up the shofar blower for one of the five aliyot to the Torah (Kol Bo). |

584:3[edit]We do not bring Torah scrolls to people in prisons even on Rosh Hashanaha and Yom Kippur (see chapter 135). |
