ENERAL SIR HENRY FREDERICK PONSONBY, K.C.B., P.C., was born at Corfu, educated at Sandhurst, and appointed ensign in the 49th Regiment at seventeen, from which he was transferred to the Grenadier Guards, with whom he served in the Crimea. After the war he was appointed Equerry to the Prince Consort, and in 1870 Private Secretary to Her Majesty, which post he still holds.
