אמבטיתא f. (deriv. of אמבטי) water of the bath-tub, waste of the bath-tub. Y. Sabb. VIII, 11c (גו) דמשזג ההן וכ׳ א׳ he who washes (his anus) in &c., is liable to a dis- ease of the rectum.

אמברא m. (cmp. עבורא; מ׳ inserted) crop, store. Keth. 105a smelt at (was an expe tt of) דחמרא א׳ (Rashi, pl.) wine stores. -- Pl. אמברי. Gitt. 56a וכ׳ א׳ להנהו קלנהו set fire to all those stores of wheat and barley.

אמגושא m. (h. מגוש) magus, magian, a Persian priest and interpreter of dreams; magician, sorcerer. Targ. Y. I Ex. VII, 15; VIII, 16. - B. Beth. 58a. Yoma. 35a (Hull. 62b) א׳ פרוה Parvah is the name of a Persian hagus after whom the cell in the Temple was named. -- Sabb. 75a ושמואל רב א׳ Var. (read אמגושתא). - Pl. אמגושי. Snh. 98a א׳ בטלי יהירי בטלי אי when (in Israel) the haughty shall cease to exist, the magians (among the Persians) shall cease.
אמגושי m. (v. preced.) a follower of magianism, believer in sorcery. M. Kat. 18a.
אמגושתא f. (deriv. of preced. ws.) magianism, ma- gian practices. Sabb. 75a ושמואל רב א׳ Ms. M. (ed. מגושתא, Var. אמגושא) as to magianism Rab and Samuel differ, one declaring it to be sorcery, the other-- blasphemmy.
*אמגיירתיה referring to (the blood) which made him a proselyte (circumcision). Y. Ab. Zar. II, 41a top א׳ אלא הוון ולא his visions as to bloodshed had refer- ence only to that (blood) which made him &c.; v. גור.
אמד (מד; v. מדד) to form an approximate estimate, to guess; to appraise, judge, deliver an expert's opinion. Erub. 58b וכ׳ אומדו he forms an approximate estimate of the height of the hill, and passes on. Snh. 78b אמדוהו למיתה they (the experts) declared his injuries to be fatal; (Y. ib. IX, 27a bot., also עמד׳) לחיים א׳ the opinion was that he would recover; a. fr. -- Hull. 51a נפשה אמדה the animal before taking a leap measures its strengtlh. Hif. האמיד same. Gen. R. s. 64 אותה שהאמידו they had appraised it (the field, --aas to how much it would yield). V. אומד.
אמד ch. same. Bekh. 61a אמדתיך להכי I guessed this was thy intention. Keth. 68a דאמידניה הא in the one case it means that we have formed an opinion about him (know whether he is stingy or liberal). -- Part. pass. אמיד. Arakh. 20a וקאי א׳ הא he stands appraised, he has been valued before this. -- Hence אמיד believed to be wealthy. B. Kam. 62a א׳ איניש. Keth. 85b א׳ דלא ביה ידענא I know he is not rich. B. אמה f. (b. h.; אמם, v. אם) 1) fore-arm, arm. Sot. 12b; Ex. R. s. 1 ידה אמר חד אמתה the word אמתה (Ex.. II, 5)-- one says it means אמתה, her arm, the other says it means אמתה, her maid-servant (v. אמה). -- Lam. R. in- trod. (R. Josh. 2) דבצלי׳ א׳ an arm (direction-post) &c.; v. בצל; Koh. R. to XII, 7 אם. - השחי (בית) אמת the arm. up to the axilla, arm-pit, name of an opening in a Temple door; v. however, infra. 4). -- 2) cubit, a measure equal to the distance from the elbow to the tip of the middle- finger. Keth. 5b; Men. 11a א׳ זו this one (the middle- iinger) is used fordefining the cubit measure.
