תעלה I f. (עלה) 1) going p, bringing up. Pesib. R. s. 20 ת׳ לו אין . . תאמר שמא lest you say, when one has gone down to the nether world, there is no coming up for him. - [2) (b. h.) growth of flesh, healing.]
תעלה II (b. h.; עלל) [going round,] g)ove, channel, mould. B. Bath. 16a (ref. to Job XXXVIII, 25) משמע מאי היא דדפוס לישנא ת׳ דהאי what proof is there that t alulh rmeans frame? (Answ. ref. to IKings XVIII, 32).
תעלומא m. (v. עלם II) secrecy, darkness. Targ. Job XXVIII, 11.
תעלומה f. (b. h. תעלמה) same; ת׳ חלון window of darkkness, name of one of the stations of the sun (v. Targe Job XXVIII, 11). Pirke d'R. El. ch. VI.
תענוג m. (b. h.; ענג) enjoyment, pleasure, luoxury. Y. Ber. II, 5b ׳ של רחיצה a bath for pleasure; שאינה ת׳ של an ordinary cleansing bath. Y. Yoma VIII, 44a, a. e. ח׳ של שהיא סיכה luxurious ointing of the body; שאינה ת׳ של common ointing. Y. Sabb. XIV, 14c לת׳ אם if you drink it for the enjoyment of it, contrad. to לרפואה as a. medicine. תענית f. (b. h.; ענה II) affliction, fast. Taan. 112b יחיד ת׳ . . an individual that vowed to fast. Ib. יחיד ת׳ a. private fast-day; ציבור ת׳ public fast. Ib. ציבור ת׳ שמא עליו קבל may-be he vowed a fast with the restrictions of a public fast. Ib. ופורע תעניתו אדם לווה one may borrow his fast and pay it, i. e. one may break his private fastt, and make up for it on another day. Ib. חלום ת׳ a fast on account of a bad dream. Ib.; Sabb. 11a לחלום ת׳ יפה וכ׳ fasting is as good to avert a bad dream as fire to con- sume flax.
