Maitland, Sir Peregrine, k.c.b.; created D.C.L. 16 June, 1847, governor and commander-in-chief Cape of Good Hope 1843-6 (son of Thomas Maitland), commanded 1st British Brigade of 1st division at Waterloo, K.C.B. 1815, general 1846, colonel 76th foot 1834-43, 17th foot 1843-54, G.C.B. 1852, etc., died 30 May, 1854.
