Description "Kong-Fù-Tsë or Confucius: the most Celebrated Philosopher of China", an illustration from The History of China, an English translation of Du Halde's 1735 French Description of China, whose engraver based his image on that found in the 1687 Latin translation of the Analects. The English image is a mirror version of the French one.
