Summary

Description
English: Francis Kinloch Huger (1773-1855) was a surgeon in Charleston. On the occasion of the Marquis de Lafayette's visit to Charleston in 1825, the city commissioned this miniature and gold frame as a gift to Lafayette in commemoration of his friendship with Huger. For eight months in 1794-95, Huger had been imprisoned for his role in trying to free Lafayette from the Austrian fortress of Olmütz. https://www.metmuseum.org/art/collection/search/10900
