English: Like the ancient Romans, the Aztec and Mexican had their "Penates", called by them TEPITOTON. The sovereigns, and great lords always had six of them in their dwellings; the nobles four, and the common people two. These gods were to be found everywhere in their streets. Tepitoton were worshiped privately as protectors of the individual household and also publicly as protectors. Each house had a shrine with images of them that were worshiped.
