Jean-Baptiste Decoster was a farmer and a landlord who was accompanied Napoleon during the Battle of Waterloo to answer his questions about the local topography. Afterwards Decoster became a battlefield guide and is mentioned in the accounts of prominent contemporary visitors such as Sir Walter Scott
