Immediate image source: scanned from a copy of Jack Finney's novel Time and Again (1970).

Previous publications: this image has been published in King, Moses S.: King's Handbook of New York City, 2nd ed., 1893, p. 746. (The first edition was published in 1892.) See HABS/HAER collections, page 9 of the data sheets on the Dakota building for confirmation of that 1893 publication. See also [1] for buying the whole book on CD.
Author The photographer is unknown. In Finney's book, no copyright is indicated for the image, credit is given to the collections of the New York Historical Society. Negative #34438C of the New York Historical Society.

Assuming it is an anonymous work (I've never seen a photographer's name associated with this image), I think the image would be even {{PD-old}}, as for anonymously published works, the copyright term starts to run at the first publication just about anywhere. Moses S. King himself most likely was not the photographer; he was an editor who published a whole series of such books; see e.g. this list. Lupo 15:12, 24 October 2006 (UTC)
