Summary

Description
English: Electric field lines of radio waves emanating from a vertical quarter-wave monopole radio transmitting antenna over ground. This is a cross section through the three dimensional radiation pattern, which is symmetrical about the axis of the antenna. The waves of electric field lines spread out from the antenna at the speed of light. It can be seen that the maximum power is radiated in horizontal directions.
