Description
English: President Theodore Roosevelt commissioned Vereshchagin to paint this scene of the Battle of San Juan. The date given is that of its publication in Roosevelt's book "The Rough Riders." If anyone can find the actual creation date of this painting, please update this description accordingly. Upon close inspection of the source page (just after page 146 in the book scan), the copyright of the photograph appears to belong to a Henry D. (surname illegible), but since the photograph would have had to have been taken prior to the book's 1899 publication, the photograph must also be in the public domain, as it was published before 1923.
