West Somerset since Feb., 1884, B.A., Balliol Coll., Oxon, 1862, fellow Queen's Coll. 1862, lord of the manor and patron of White Staunton, occasional assistant endowed schools commissioner 1873-6. author of Origins of English History, On the Laws of Copyholds, etc., On Common and Waste Lands, etc., a student of Lincoln's Inn 7 June, 1862 (then aged 23), called to the bar 17 Nov., 1865 (eldest son of Frederick Bayard Elton, Esq., of Clifton, co. Gloucester); born 6 Dec, 1839; married 6 Aug., 1863, Mary Augusta, dau. of Richard Strachey, Esq. (see Foster's Baronetage).
