Herbert, Sir Robert George Wyndham, K.C.B., D.C.L., All Souls', Oxon, 1858, fellow 1854, M.A., Balliol Coll., Oxon, 1854, an Etonian, permanent under-secretary of state for the colonies since 1871, premier of Queensland 1860-5, assistant secretary to Board of Trade 1866-70, assistant under-secretary for colonies 1870-1, secretary of the order of St. Michael and St. George 1877, J.P., D.L. co. Camb., formerly practised at Melbourne, a student of the Inner Temple 17 July, 1854 (then aged 23), called to the bar 30 April, 1858 (only son of late Hon. Algernon Herbert, of Ickleton, co. Camb.); born 12 June, 1831 (see Foster's Peerage, E. Carnarvon).
