Marshall, Sir James, M.A., Exeter Coll., Oxon, 1854, chief magistrate and judicial assessor for native chiefs Gold Coast July, 1873, senior puisne judge Gold Coast Colony April, 1877, chief justice Jan., 1879–82, sometime classical master in the Birmingham Oratory School, went the Northern circuit, knighted at Windsor Castle 29 June, 1882, a student of Lincoln's Inn 19 April, 1865 (then aged 35), called to the bar 27 Jan., 1868 (2nd son of Rev. James Marshall, late of Clifton, co. Gloucester, dec.); born 19 Dec., 1829; married 25 Oct., 1877, Alice, 3rd dau. of Gwyllym Young, Esq., of Corby, co. Lincoln.
