Pauncefote, Sir Julian, K.C.M.G., C.B., permanent under-secretary of state for foreign affairs since 1882, joint assistant under-secretary 1876-82, attorney-general Hong Kong 1866-73, chief justice Leeward Islands 1874, assistant under-secretary of state for colonies 1874-6, K.C.M.G. 12 Jan., 1880, C.B. 20 April, 1880, knighted 31 Jan., 1874, prepared The Hong Kong Code of Civil Procedure, a student of the Inner Temple 14 Nov., 1848 (then aged 20), called to the bar 4 May, 1852 (2nd son of late Robert Pauncefote, Esq., of Preston Court, co. Glouc.); born 13 Sept., 1828; married 14 Sept., 1859, Selina FitzGerald, 2nd surviving dau. of late Major William Cubitt, of Catfield, Norfolk, and has issue (see Foster's Peerage, B. Carrington).
