תשוב pr. n. pl. T'shub, native place of Elijah the Tishbite. Targ. IKings XVII, 1; II Kings I, 8 ed. Lag. (oth. ed. תושב); a. fr.
תשובה f. (b. h.; שוב) 1) return to God, repentance. Ab. IV, 11, v. תריס. Pes. 54a וכ׳ ת׳ תורה . . . שבעה seven things were created before the world was made, they are; the Law, repentance &c. Ib. 119a (ref. to Ez. I, 8) ת׳ בעלי לקבל כדי . ידו זה that is the hand of the Loord which is spread under the wings of the Hayoth (v. חיה I) to receive the repentant sinners. Ber, 34b מקום וכ׳ עומדין ת׳ שבעלי where the repentant sinners stand, the perfectly righteous are not permitted to stand, for it is said (Is. LVII, 19) &c. Yeb. 21a (in Chald. dict.) הני בת׳ אפשר לא הני בת׳ אפשר these sins (of incest) may be remedied by repentance, but those (ofgiving false measures) cannot be rremedied by repentance (because you can make no restoration). Pesik. R. s. 28 (ref. to Ps. CXXXVII, 2) וכ׳ לת׳ . עפרה וראה בא come and see (the power of the love of) the dust of the land of Israel for repentance as long as they were in the land of Israel, Jeremiah said to them, do pchance, &c.; a. fr. -- 2) rcply, asaoer. תשוויתא, תשויתא f. (שוי) 1) bed, couch, mattress, carpet. Targ. Prov. XXII, 27. -- Pl. תשווייתא, השוי׳. Ib. XXXI, 22 (h. text מרבדים). Ib. VII, 16. -- 2) bed, bottom. Targ. Ez. XLIII, 13; 14; 17 (h. text חיק).
תשומת f. (b. h.; שום), י ת׳ trust, loan. SifraVayik ra, Hob., Par. 9, ch. XV; Shebu. IV, 5 יד ות׳ פקדון a charge or a loan. B. Mets. 48a, a. e. וכ׳ לו שיחד כגון . . . יד ת׳ by f'someth yad we mean a loan for which the debtor has designated a certain object in his possession as security. Ib. (ref. o Lev. V, 24) להישבון יד ת׳ לרבות this includes the t'someth yad as amenable to the law of restoration (v. השבון); a. e.
תשוע, v. תישוע.
תשועה f. (b. h.; ישע) help, salvation. Ex. R. s. 18, end וכ׳ ת׳ לכם שעשיתי ביום on the anniversary of the day on which I wrought salvation for you (on the fourteenth of Nisan), and in that vvery night. Ib. s. 19, end להם ועשה ת׳ and he saved them ; a. e.
תשוקה f. (b. h.; שוק I) desire. Gen. R. s. 20 אין וכ׳ אשה של תשוקתהה the wife's longing is for her hus- band (Gen. III, 16) וכ׳ יצר של תשוקתו אין the tempter longs for Cain and the ike of him (ib. IV, 7); תשוקתן אין של the rains long for the earth (Ps. LXV, 10); תשוקתו ואין וכ׳ הקבוה של and the Lord ongs for Israel (Cant. VII, 11). Ib. לתשוקתך תשובי return to thy desire; לתשוקת תשובי אישד return to the desire for thy husband; a. e. -- Pl, תשוקות. Ib. וכ׳ הן ת׳ ארבע there are four desires (four Biblical passages containing the word t'shukah or its root); Yalk. ib. 32.
תשורה f. (b. h.; שור, v. שיירה I) traveller's gift to the host, present. Yalk. Cant. 988 (ref. to תשורי, Cant. IV, 8) הזו כת׳ . . . שעתידין the nations will bring lsrael as the travellers gift (alluding to Is. LX VI, 20; cmp. Cant. R. to l. c.). Midr. Till. to Ps. LXXXVII (ref. to תשורי, Cant. l. c.) וכ׳ מסתכל נש דבר ת׳ דורון נקרא למה why is a gitt called t'shurah? Because man looks at it and says, how beautifull (ed. Bub. ומזמרין בה כלין שמסת; by ref. to Job VII, 8); Yalk. ib. 838 (not תשורו).

תשותא f. (תשש) weakness, feebleness. Targ. Lam. I, 6 כח תשות (ed. Vien. תשות).
תשחורת f. (שחר II, v. Ned. III, 8 quot. s. v. שחור I) 1) early manhood, youth. Ab. III, 2 לת׳ נוח, v. נוח II; Y. Taan. II, 65b bot. (corr. acc.). Lam. R. to I, 2 בן לה היה ומת ת׳ she had a grown up son, and he died; ib. II, I . -- 2) (sub. מיתת) death at manhood, premature death. Ib. ה׳ של (דמעה) tears over the loss of a grown up child. Treat. Der. EEr. Zutta ch. IX הת׳ ממלאך שתנצל כרי in order that thou mayest be saved from the angel of premature death. - [3) search for goung men, conscription. Tanna d'be Elijahu ch. I.]
