In the middle of a room, a man sits, in profile to the left, astride on a wooden bench which serves also as a card-table. He wears a tall hat and holds up his cards. He looks down at the cards which the adversary openly shows him. This man sits on a chair, wearing a fur cap and looking at his cards. Between the two sits a spectator, seen in full face with his head turned to the left and his cap awry. He lifts a jug to his lips with his right hand. Between him and the player on the left, farther back, stands another spectator, with his face almost concealed by his hat. In the right background a fifth peasant enters at a door.
