Dear Nell. I am still trying to wake up to being out of Turkey. The warm-hearted coves in this camp are helping do it. Bert has gone back to Boasca & is standing by for first boat to Australia. I wonder if you think me selfish in going off to England? I am glad that Bert had already put down to go home so that my plans have not influenced his. I don't suppose letters written after the Bulgars break down stood much chance of getting out of Turkey. I must therefore go back to the exciting break from Hadji-Kiri. Not knowing how near the end was we were anxious to stop there, but only the doctor & his servent were allowed to do so. We stopped for 75 hrs at the Hadji-Kiri Stn & saw the rush of German soldiers & Turkish refugee families from Damascus & Aleppo. Finally we got a footing on one of the trains & refused to be put off. Ridgway, the hospital cook & I travelled to B'dik standing on buffers & holding on to lamp holders. At B'dik we joined another party & travelled in two waggons to Afion-Kara-Hissar.
