Immediately after graduating at the North Western University was appointed Instructor (and later Assistant Professor) of Latin in that Institution; travelled and studied in Germany and Italy, 1889-90; appointed Professor of English at Tokyo School of Foreign Languages, 1901; in 1901 also appointed Professor of English in Waseda University.
