The Wrong Box was first published in June 1889, and reprinted in July and August of that year. This transcription is of one of these three printings. The story, which was begun in 1887 by Lloyd Osbourne (Stevenson's step-son), was provisionally titled The Finsbury Tontine, then A Game of Bluff, before finally becoming The Wrong Box prior to first publication.
