O’Conor, Major William Frederick Travers, R.A., C.I.E. (1904), Indian Political Department; e.s. of Mathew Weld O’Conor; b. 1870; educ: Charterhouse, and Woolwich; joined the Army in the Royal Artillery; transferred to Indian Political Department, 1905; employed in the Swat valley, and Tirah Campaigns (medal and 3 clasp), 1897-98; attached to Kashmir Imperial Service Troops, 1899-1903; became Captain, 1899; Interpreter in the Mission to Lhassa (medal and clasp, C.I.E.), 1903-04; promoted to the rank of Major, 1908; served in Tibet as Secretary to Commissioner, 1903-04 , British Trade Agent, Gyantse, 1904-08; Consul for Seistan and Kain, and Persia, 1909; Consul General and Agent to Government of India, in Khorasan, 1910.
