OUR COW
ere then is our Cow, whose tale we'll unfold,
(For if Truth’s to prevail a Straight Tale must be told),
She’s a bovine aristocrat, healthy and strong,
And her milk’s just as pure as her pedigree’s long.
That milk she gives daily, so rich and so sweet,
So strengthening, creamy, and in proteids complete.
Milk is the one great staple food from Infancy to Old
Age — but it must be pure.

ext comes Our Farmer, who takes care of Our Cow
And her diinguished sisters, for you must allow

TO OUR LITTLE PATRONS
HE Tale of Our Cow" has been especially printed for you. When I first read the story it pleased me so much that I was sure little folks would enjoy it also. Men, you know, are only little boys gone to seed—you can almost always tell when a little boy has gone to seed, it usually shows on his head—which looks like a fuzzy dandelion after you have blown on it to find out what o'clock it is, and sometimes it looks as though he had taken the hair off the top to cover his face—that's the way I look.
Well, what I was going to say was that as "The Tale of Our Cow' had pleased a boy gone to seed—it was sure to please little boys not gone to seed, and little girls, too—especially if it had pictures.
Now, you know there are lots of people who draw pictures—I wanted to find one who could draw pictures sure to suit you.
Well, one day in a book shop in London, I saw a book about "Uncle Lubin"; it had pictures that would delight any girl or boy. It was through "Uncle Lubin" that I became acquainted with W. Heath Robinson, and although Mr. Robinson is very busy making pictures for grown-ups, he consented to draw the pictures in this booklet for you. The cows in the pictures were drawn by Mr. Billinghurst, who has illustrated several books of fables for girls and boys.
"The Tale of Our Cow" is the tale of City Dairy Milk, and although our special thought was to please you by telling the story in rhyme yet it is a "straight tale" and contains much information that will be of interest to Mama and Papa, so it won't hurt them to read it to you a few times, that is if you are too little to read it for yourself.
We are afraid the Mamas are not always as careful about the milk they buy for their little children as they should be. They sometimes think that milk they can buy cheaper than City Dairy Milk is just as good, but we have heard of lots of girls and boys who don't like the other kind because it doesn't always taste nice, and the fact that it doesn't taste nice is proof that it is not just as good.
If all the Mamas who don't buy City Dairy Milk would come and see how much care we take in clarifying, pasteurizing, and putting the Milk in "bottles air tight" and then keeping it cold until delivered, we are sure they would want to give their little girls and boys City Dairy Milk, no matter how much it cost.
Another thing Mamas should remember is that Milk contains just the nourishment that "Our Little Patrons" need, in just the proper proportions to "build up, to stay up, both body and brain," and this nourishment in Milk is in a form more readily digestible than in any other food.
Of course Mamas don't count the cost when your health is being considered, but they will be glad to know that for a regular diet there is more nourishment in a quart of City Dairy Milk than in anything else they can buy to take its place for the same amount of money.

TO PAPA, MAMA AND OTHERS
In issuing this booklet we think it fitting to define our attitude as to the conduct of our business.
THIS Company was organized several years ago—its principal object being to raise the standard of milk, cream, and Dairy products delivered for consumption in Toronto and its environs. Since its inception, the Company has spared no care and expense in securing the best product available; introducing methods and inspections never before practiced in the Dominion; condemning that which did not meet with its approval, and educating the farmer producers to the highest standards of care. The Company installed the most approved and up-to-date machinery to be had, but—as an indication of its progressiveness—nearly all has been replaced by later and more scientific equipment. It has always kept an open mind on the subject of dairy methods, especially relating to the handling of milk and cream in large cities, and in practice have kept fully abreast of scientific research.
EVERY housewife should be interested enough in the purity of the milk and cream that she uses in her household to personally inspect the Dairy from which the supply comes. A visit to the City Dairy is a liberal education in all pertaining to methods for clarifying, pasteurizing, and delivering in bottles, "air-tight," safe and wholesome milk.

Gaertner’s Baby Milk for Normal Babies of All Ages
Gaertner’s Baby Milk is made of fresh milk from cow’s Tuberculin tested and approved by the Milk Commission of the Academy of Medicine. It is made to contain the same constituents and in the same proportions as mothers’ milk.
