Amendment to the Constitution
of the Kingdom of Thailand, 2518 Buddhist Era

Given on the 19th day of January 2518 BE
Being the 30th year of the present reign

Phra Bat Somdet Phra Paramin Maha Bhumibol Adulyadej gives a great royal command by which He orders with His pleasure that it be announced as follows:

Whereas it is appropriate to amend the Constitution of the Kingdom of Thailand;

Therefore, He orders with His gracious pleasure that the following Amendment to the Constitution of the Kingdom of Thailand, 2518 Buddhist Era, be enacted:

Section1.This Constitution is called the "Amendment to the Constitution of the Kingdom of Thailand, 2518 Buddhist Era".

Section2.This Constitution shall come into force from the day following the day of its publication in the Royal Gazette onwards.

Section3.The stipulations of section 107 of the Constitution of the Kingdom of Thailand shall be repealed and replaced by the following stipulations:

"Section107.The Senate is composed of Senators who are one hundred in number and are appointed by the Monarch from amongst competent persons with knowledge and expertise in academic affairs or [other] affairs which would be of benefit to the administration of the State, with the qualifications according to section 117(1), and with the age not lower than full thirty-five years, and without the disqualifications according to section 116 and section 118.

The Prime Minister shall countersign the appointment of Senators."

Section4.The stipulations of section 110 of the Constitution of the Kingdom of Thailand shall be repealed and replaced by the following stipulations:

"Section110.When a position of Senator becomes vacant for any other reason than retirement by rotation, the Monarch will appoint a person whose characteristics meet those provided in section 107 as a replacing Senator. Such replacing Senator only retains the position for the [remaining] tenure of the person he replaces."
